How does Tirzepatide work?

Tirzepatide works by mimicking the behavior of two hormones, GLP-1 and GIP, which work together to stimulate insulin secretion and slow stomach emptying after a meal, signal to the brain that you feel full, and regulate fat cells. All this helps regulate blood sugar levels and cause weight loss. When used in conjunction with a healthy diet and lifestyle, tirzepatide can dramatically increase weight loss.

Is this the same thing as Ozempic?

Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro are all FDA-approved drugs used to treat Type II Diabetes. Ozempic and Wegovy, although doesed differently, are both forms of semaglutide which target one hormone (GLP-1).  Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide.  Unlike Ozempic and Wegovy, Mounjaro (tirzepatide) targets two major hormones (GLP-1 and GIP). Studies have shown that tirzepatide may lead to more dramatic weight loss than semaglutide.

What is the process?

The process begins with a 15-minute complimentary phone consultation to determine if you are a candidate for treatments. If you decide to proceed with treatments, we will schedule a visit with our providers to administer your first dose and provide you with your first 2 months of take-home treatments.  Your second visit will be scheduled 6 weeks after your first visit to check in on your progress. After that, we will visit monthly to review your progress and determine if dosage changes are warranted based on your progress and your goals.

Good candidates have a BMI of 25 or higher and do not have a medical history of thyroid cancer or pancreatitis and are not pregnant or nursing.

How long do I need treatments?

Clinical studies of semaglutide and tirzepatide that showed significant weight loss were in patients receiving treatments for a minimum of 3 to 6 months. As with any weight loss program, it is critical for you to establish healthy diet and exercise habits to achieve long-term weight loss.
